Health Department Steps Up its Public Health Nurse Recruitment
- Two Open Hire Events Planned -

The Fairfax County Health Department is recruiting for public health nurses and will host two Open Hire events in the coming weeks. Various public health nurse positions are available throughout Fairfax County in clinic, field services and school health settings.

Applicants will be interviewed during the Open Hire events, to be held Tuesday, Jan. 24, 4-7 p.m., at the Health Department's Herndon-Reston District Office; and Tuesday, Feb. 7, 4-7 p.m., at the agency's Falls Church District Office.

Public health nurses (PHNs) in Fairfax County provide a variety of community health services to diverse populations using a multi-disciplinary approach. For example, a PHN may provide services in a client's home, serve on a committee or task force, work with community partners to address health issues, work on grant-funded projects, and make educational presentations at fairs and other events.

"The Health Department offers a professional practice environment with family-friendly hours, meaningful work, and autonomy in decision making," said Rosalyn Foroobar, director of the Health Department's Patient Care Services division. "We hope to meet applicants who really want to make a difference in the lives of the residents we serve."

The two Open Hire events represent the Health Department's proactive, strategic approach to addressing future staffing needs, as a number of current employees may consider retirement in the coming years. "Every nursing position at the Health Department meets a critical public health need for our community," said Foroobar.
