New Mosquito, Tick and Repellent Educational Brochures Available from Health Department

The Fairfax County Health Department recently has published four new educational brochures for the 2007 mosquito and tick season, now in full swing. Printed in full color, the brochures will be used to augment the multi-faceted “Fight the Bite” public education campaign about disease carrying insects.
New Brochures
“Choosing the Right Repellent” helps people understand the different insect repellent choices available today.
“Ticks and Tick-Borne Diseases in Fairfax County” describes the three species of disease-carrying ticks found in Fairfax County; the symptoms of tick-borne diseases; as well as the actions to take if a tick is found on a person.
“The Asian Tiger Mosquito” provides detailed information about this aggressive nuisance pest in Fairfax County.
“Understanding Mosquitoes and West Nile Virus” offers practical advice on preventing mosquito bites and describes the symptoms and risk factors of West Nile virus.

Additional “Fight the Bite” Public Education Campaign Materials
The colorful and humorous 18-month calendar for the years 2007-2008, “Fight the Bite,” now in its third edition, contains comprehensive information on West Nile virus prevention, mosquito management, and tick and Lyme disease educational information.
Additional “Fight the Bite” materials are available in seven languages – English, Chinese, Farsi, Korean, Spanish, Urdu and Vietnamese. All materials can be downloaded from the “Fight the Bite” Web page .
