Fairfax County Health Collaborative
In May 2014, Health Management Associates (HMA) presented a report called Creating an Integrated Approach to the Care of Vulnerable Populations in Fairfax County: A Work Plan to the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors. HMA developed the report based on previous county efforts to enhance the health care delivery system for vulnerable populations in Fairfax County. Drawing on the prior work of task forces, past reports, key informant interviews, research and their own experience and expertise, HMA drafted a series of recommendations aimed at creating a seamless, integrated health safety net within Fairfax County.
During the summer of 2014, the recommendations will be reviewed by Fairfax County to determine which recommendations, if any, will be implemented.
Health Collaborative Background
In early 2013, the Fairfax County Health Collaborative was formed. It is comprised of members of the Fairfax County human services leadership team, county staff and community representatives from human services advisory boards and the Northern Virginia Health Foundation. Since its inception, the Health Collaborative has worked to define the county's role in the future of health safety net services for our community.
The Health Collaborative evolved from the previously established Health Care Reform Implementation Task Force, which completed its work in October 2012 when it presented a plan to the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors (BOS) that, in part, suggested the need for technical assistance to examine the health safety net within the county. Acting on that suggestion, the county developed a contract with Health Management Associates (HMA), a consulting team experienced in working with local governments to assess systems and make improvements.
