Strategy #2 Preserve and Increase Affordable Housing Supply
A sufficient supply of affordable and permanent
supportive housing that provides homes for everyone in the community is
the essential and mandatory factor for ending homelessness in the
Fairfax-Falls Church community.
The lack of affordable and diverse housing options has reached crisis proportions. This strategy targets the expansion of opportunities for housing.
OBJECTIVES
-
Create a dedicated funding source to spur development or subsidization
of additional affordable housing and provide incentives for set-asides
for homeless people in existing housing.
-
Give those with very low incomes priority for affordable housing
options.
-
Remove barriers to building residential studio units to promote
immediate building.
-
Convert time-limited transitional housing to permanent housing, as
appropriate.
-
Develop more supportive housing for high-risk homeless people with
disabilities, including both individuals and families.
- Help faith communities actively share in developing more housing.
