Public Health Laboratory Technologist

Salary:
  $20.71 to $27.62/hour, depending on experience
Schedule:  30 hours per week, including some evening hours

Description:  Under the supervision of the Public Health Laboratory Supervisor, performs on-site laboratory assistance at sexually-transmitted disease clinics. Reads, interprets, and records results of wet preps and gram stains to provide essential data for the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of communicable diseases. Primary duties also include necropsy of domestic and wild animals for Rabies testing. Assists with clinical testing in other areas of the laboratory as needed. Applicants must be computer literate and proficient in preparation, staining, and reading of microscopic slides.

Minimum Qualifications: Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, medical technology or a related field of study; PLUS two years laboratory experience; or possession of a valid certificate in medical technology issued by a nationally recognized society PLUS two years laboratory experience.

Special Requirements:  Possession of a valid motor vehicle driver's license and satisfies the county's minimum driving requirements. The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check to the satisfaction of the employer.

Preferred Qualifications: Health Department experience and knowledge of specific policies and procedures. Experience in a number of laboratory specialties, including routine bacteriological procedures such as: microscopy, fluorescent microscopy, gram stains, and wet preps. Ability to work independently. Possesses effective oral and written communication skills.

Note: This position is scheduled to work 30 hours per week (not to exceed 1,560 hours per calendar year). Individuals in these positions are eligible for limited employee benefits, including medical, vision and dental insurance coverage, and participation in flexible spending programs, but are not eligible to earn leave or receive holiday pay.

Behavioral Health Nurse Clinician/Case Manager (Part-time)

This nurse clinician is a member of an interdisciplinary outreach team providing engagement, assessment, referral and linkage, life skills, behavioral and medical case management, crisis intervention, support services, and supportive counseling to individuals with serious mental illness and/or substance use disorders. Recovery-oriented services are provided in mostly non-traditional community/outreach venues (e.g., unsheltered settings, homeless shelters, jails, hospitals, client homes, job sites). In addition to weekday daytime shifts, this position may also work weekend, evening, and holiday hours and may include on-call coverage.

Special Requirements:  Possession of a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Exciting opportunity to work with multidisciplinary team at the Fairfax Detoxification Center, in a community-based residential setting. Staff is being enhanced and expanded to provide integrated services, addressing substance use and mental health disorders as well as co-occurring primary care needs. Programming includes medical and clinically managed detoxification, acupuncture, and case management and referral services. The nursing staff is responsible for clinical, medical and primary care issues.

 Minimum Qualifications: Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in nursing; plus two years of post-licensure experience as a nurse, in the specialty area of psychiatric mental health nursing, substance use disorders, mental retardation, or relevant clinical specialty.

Position is part-time, 30 hours per week. In addition to Monday through Friday daytime shifts, this position may also be expected to work weekends, evenings, and holiday hours and may include on-call coverage as needed to cover program requirements.

This nurse clinician is a member of an interdisciplinary outreach team providing engagement, assessment, referral and linkage, life skills education, behavioral and medical case management, crisis intervention, support services, and supportive counseling to individuals with serious mental illness and/or substance use disorders. Recovery-oriented services are provided in mostly non-traditional community/outreach venues (e.g., unsheltered settings, homeless shelters, jails, hospitals, client homes, job sites). The nurse will be expected to deliver and administer medications, including injections.

Minimum Qualifications: Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in nursing; plus two years of post-licensure experience as a nurse, in the specialty area of psychiatric mental health nursing, substance use disorders, intellectual disabilities, or relevant clinical specialty; or graduation from an accredited college with an associate's degree in nursing; plus four years of post-licensure experience as a nurse in the specialty area of psychiatric mental health nursing, substance use disorders, intellectual disabilities, or relevant clinical specialty.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience providing community based case management to adults with serious mental illness/co-occurring disorders. Experience working with in a Program of Assertive Community Treatment or similar service modality. Willingness to provide case management to incarcerated persons.

Special Requirements: The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check and a check of the Child Protective Services Registry to the satisfaction of the employer. Valid driver's license required. Must be able to transport customers.
