Registered Nurse – Public Health Nurse

Schedule: 16 hours per week, flexible schedule during core business (Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.)

Description:  Works in a public health clinical setting with a focus on risk assessment, treatment, teaching, and prevention. Services include assessing immunization status and determining immunization needs (children and adults); TB risk assessment and TST’s/QFT’s; STD screening/treatment, and follow up; access to prenatal care for Maternity patients; health screening for Refugee families, referral to community resources, and linkages to care; and LTBI treatment/monitoring. 

Minimum Qualifications:  Graduation from a college or university accredited by the National League for Nursing. A bachelor’s degree is required. A current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Virginia is also required. One to two years of experience working with multicultural families whose primary language is not English. One to two years functioning as an RN in a health care setting.

Special Requirements: The appointee will be required to complete a criminal background check, an Office of the Inspector General (OIG) check and a check of the Child Protective Services Registry to the satisfaction of the employer. The appointee must possess a valid driver’s license and may be asked to travel to other Health Department locations within Fairfax County.

Preferred Qualifications: Two years of RN practice in a community-based setting with an emphasis on health assessment and prevention services.

Behavioral Health Nurse Case Manager (Relief Nurse)

Exciting opportunity to work with multidisciplinary team at the Fairfax Detoxification Center, in a community-based residential setting. Staff is being enhanced and expanded to provide integrated services, addressing substance use and mental health disorders as well as co-occurring primary care needs. Programming includes medical and clinically managed detoxification, acupuncture, and case management and referral services. The nursing staff is responsible for clinical, medical and primary care issues.

Minimum Qualifications: Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the following: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in nursing; plus two years of post-licensure experience as a nurse, in the specialty area of psychiatric mental health nursing, substance use disorders, intellectual disabilities, or relevant clinical specialty.

Seeking Licensed Clinical Psychologist to conduct independent evaluations of adults and minors who have been involuntarily hospitalized under a court-issued Temporary Detention Order.  Duties include conducting comprehensive clinical evaluations, completing written reports, serving as an expert to the General District and Circuit Courts, and providing testimony at commitment and appeal hearings. Variable work schedule but must be able to work some evening, weekend, and holiday hours. Training on relevant Virginia statutes and the role of the Independent Evaluator is provided.  Psychologist in private practice may be interested in adding these tasks to their existing practice.

Special Requirements: Possession of a current license to practice as a Clinical Psychologist in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Community Health Specialist (Requires Ability to Speak Chinese)

Description: In coordination with the Health Outreach Team, develops implements and evaluates community outreach and education focused on health promotion, prevention and health communication and emergency preparedness programming to the general public and in the Chinese communities. Provides specialized outreach and programming to non-profit organizations, hard to reach populations, parent and caregiver groups, small businesses and faith communities. Creating and sustaining partnerships is a substantial function. Aids in the evaluation of agency strategies and partnerships used to leverage community assets and improve population health metrics. Work will center on providing population-based interventions aimed at addressing the root causes and social determinants of health known to negatively impact health outcomes.  Administers health surveys, supports data collection and informs written reports. Ensures health education and communication services are provided in compliance with agency standards of care and local, state and federal regulations. Performs outreach to Fairfax County, Falls Church and Fairfax City and advances the Mission, goals, and objectives of the Fairfax County Public Health Department.

Minimum Qualifications: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor’s degree in health education, human services, or a directly related field;  plus one year of experience in communicable and/or chronic disease education, investigation, or other types of health-related work involving considerable public contact.

Special Language Requirements: Bilingual experience performing outreach work in the Chinese communities, focused on health promotion and prevention. Bilingual capabilities, both written and oral, in the languages spoken by the targeted ethnic communities—must be completely fluent in English and Chinese.  Must be able to speak, read and write English and Chinese.   

Special Requirements: The appointee will be required to complete a criminal background check and a driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer.  The appointee must possess a valid driver’s license and will be required to travel to various locations within Fairfax County using own transportation.

Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree in education or related fields is highly desired. Translation capacity is a plus. Familiarity with Fairfax County is a plus.

Intellectual Disability Specialist I (Part-Time)

Two part-time IDS-I positions. Each position will work approximately 16.0 hours per week providing support coordination services to individuals with an intellectual disability who have Medicaid.   The duties will include providing ongoing support coordination services through monthly collateral contacts and face-to-face visits either every 90 days or every 30 days if the individual qualifies for the Enhanced Case Management.  Completes assessments, leads interdisciplinary team in developing Person-Centered Plan with the individual, links to needed services/supports, monitors delivery and quality of services according to the plan, is aware of person's interests and goals, acts as a resource to the individual and his/her family, meets with individual in the community, where services are provided, manages emergencies, and collaborates with vendors to ensure that health and safety needs are met. Work  must comply with all Medicaid requirements, time-lines and documentation.  Work requires the ability to enter information into an electronic healthcare record system. Case load size is about 8-10 persons.

Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in a human services field, or equivalent experience.
Preferred Qualifications:  At least two years of experience working with persons who have intellectual disabilities, understanding of Medicaid and Medicaid Waivers, and excellent written and verbal communication skills. Qualified Mental Retardation Case Manager (QMRCM).
