Adjunct Instructor - Volunteer Fire and Rescue Training Program – CERT Instructor

The Volunteer Fire and Rescue Training program (VFRTP) has a vacancy for a Community Emergency Response Training (CERT) Adjunct Instructors. Adjunct Instructors provide certified instruction for the Fire and Rescue Academy (FRA) sponsored training activities. The CERT Program operates primarily Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings from 1900-2300, and Saturdays and Sundays from 0800-1600. This position reports to the Volunteer Training Coordinator and the Volunteer Liaison (CERT program manager).

The Adjunct Instructor positions for the Volunteer Training Program are exempt status (G) positions (Non-merit). 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Delivery of FEMA’s CERT curriculum and the Hazard Annex.
    • Overseeing and conducting operations-based CERT exercises and tabletop exercises.
    • Delivering offsite training will require operating a vehicle with a light trailer.
    • Assisting in various special training projects for the CERT Program.

Minimum Qualifications:

    • VA EMT-B or higher, with at least two years experience as an EMS provider.
    • Emergency Management Institute course E0428, CERT Train the Trainer, prior certification or completion within 12 months of employment.
    • National Association of Emergency Medical Services Educators (NAEMSE) Instructor I and II or NFPA 1041 Instructor I certified.

Preferred Qualifications:

    • Proven ability as a lead instructor.
    • NFPA 1001 Fire Fighter I and II with at least 2 years active minimum staffing experience.
    • Volunteer Firemen’s Insurance Services or Emergency Vehicle Driver Training instructor.
    • Virginia Office of Emergency Medical Services, EMS Education Coordinator.
    • American Heart Association Basic Life Support instructor.
    • Experience with Microsoft computer based instructional programs including, but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

    • Lead and assist in the delivery of entry level FRA training, Level 1.

Golf Instructor

Under the direction of the Head Golf Professional, teaches junior golf camps, group golf lessons for adults and juniors, private lessons. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from a high school or G.E.D. issued by a state department of education, Level II USGTF Instructor with experience teaching golf lessons. Must be at least 21 years old.

Special Requirements:  All successful applicants must also agree to a criminal background check including fingerprinting, provide negative TB results, attend mandatory training, possess current or acquire first aid and CPR certifications before the start of employment, and have never been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor related to abuse, neglect, exploitation or other barrier crimes as listed on the Sworn Disclosure Statement of the Criminal Record Check.

Lab Aide/Work Student III

Description: Lab Aides working at a CLCP site will interact with school-aged children, teens and adults utilizing the center, and may be asked to help assist or instruct a class related to technology. Students should have a basic background in computers. Ideally they will understand and be comfortable working with programs such as Microsoft Office, an ability to navigate the Internet, and willingness to learn new software applications. Students will experience a rich variety of ethnic groups and cultures in the centers.

Individual will assist in the daily operations and delivery of curriculum which addresses the needs of a culturally diverse population.  They will assist the Information Technology Educator with administrative functions, communicate participant behavioral issues to supervisor, contribute to innovation and creativeness of programs, and assist in monitoring the proper usage of all materials and supplies.  

Functions within this position include but are not limited to:

    1. Assist with center administrative tasks
    2. Assist in supervision of the children in the CLCP Center
    3. Assist children with homework
    4. Chaperone field trips
    5. Read to children
    6. Provide one-on-one assistance on computer with younger children

Day Care Center Teacher I

Plans, prepares and carries out activities and projects for groups of elementary school-age children enrolled in an after-school program. Provides leadership and ensures the safety of the children enrolled in the center.

Minimum Qualifications: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to completion of two years of study and training at an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in early childhood or elementary education, nursing, recreation, or a related field plus one year of related work experience.

Special Requirements: The appointee to this position will be required to complete a TB test, a criminal background check and a check of the Child Protective Services Registry to the satisfaction of the employer.

Preferred Qualifications: Major course work in early childhood education. Experience working with groups of children. Bilingual ability in English and another language is desired.

Prepare customers for a safe experience by providing thorough introductions to equipment and safety requirements. Perform equipment inspections and report if maintenance is necessary. Monitor changing weather and water traffic conditions and make appropriate decisions to ensure safety of participants, staff, and other water users. Accurately document and organize class related paperwork. Prepare and clean up class materials and equipment. Maintain strong communication with park staff, recreation programs manager, and park users. Follow program outlines and provide resource interpretation. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Must be 18 years (minimum age) or older. High school diploma or equivalent required. Valid driver’s license with good driving record. CPR/ First Aid and AED. Able to lift 75 pounds. Must have a Level 1 ACA Instructor certification or equivalent, 3 to 5 years canoeing, kayaking, SUP, or boating experience on a river. Fishing experience a plus.

Spring Hill Recreation Center is seeking a Preschool Program Aide who will operate under the direction of the Preschool Director to assist with the Kid’s Play for Preschoolers program and other preschool aged programs.

Kid’s Play for Preschoolers is a program established to provide a safe and nurturing environment where children can develop emotionally, socially and intellectually through appropriate experiences. Children are encouraged to learn through hands-on activities and staff are expected to help children learn independence and to develop a positive self-image.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

Assisting the lead teachers in daily tasks, such as setting up the necessary supplies for arts and crafts or special activities; maintaining a neat, attractive, clean and orderly environment including shelves, closets, cubbies and tables; communicating with parents as necessary.  Ability to temporarily take over programs while the Director is away. Works as part of a team with other staff members.

Minimum Qualifications:  Candidates must be at least 18 years of age, have a high school diploma and demonstrated early childhood experience. First Aid and CPR certifications and a negative TB test are required prior to the start date. The appointee must maintain training hours per Virginia licensing requirements. This job is contingent upon satisfactory results of a criminal background check, which will require the candidate to be fingerprinted.

Preferred Qualifications:  Ability to present to a group of children. Flexibility and dependability. Energetic while able to positively influence to behavior of young children. Excellent communication skills.
