Children’s Education Assistant

Hours:  15-20 hours per week

Duties:  Assist with all aspects of Children’s Education at Green Spring Gardens. Plan and conduct plant-based nature programs for children and families. Develop programs, lesson plans, and teaching aids. Create and maintain interpretive exhibits. Gardening and other light physical work. Perform administrative duties as assigned. 

Minimum Qualifications:  Experience educating children.  Working knowledge of nature and gardening.  Ability to use a personal computer and Microsoft Office Suite applications including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Publisher; ability to direct and coordinate the work of volunteers.

Preferred Qualifications:  Any combination of education, training and paid or volunteer experience equivalent to an associate or bachelor’s degree in the sciences, education, or related field, or experience in education or related field.

Note: *This position may not exceed 900 hours per calendar year. Individuals in these positions are not eligible to earn leave or receive holiday pay.

Preschool Assistant Programmer

Spring Hill RECenter is looking for a new, dynamic Preschool Assistant Programmer. This person should be well-organized, familiar with licensing paperwork, enjoy working with children, have excellent communication skills and look for creative solutions to everyday scenarios.

Primary duties include:

  • Organizing licensing paperwork
  • Directly interacts with children
  • Leads creation of new secondary programs to compliment the preschool
  • Assists clients with registration and processing payment
  • Maintains a clean and safe environment for preschool participants
  • Communicates reminders and necessary information to parents
  • Acts as Director as needed
  • Additional duties may be assigned

Work hours include M/W/F, 8:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. working in the preschool and Saturdays, 8 a.m. to – 2 p.m., assisting to create and promote new programs and assist RECenter patrons with registration for classes. Tuesday and Thursday hours possible as enrollment numbers increase. Preschool runs early September through early June. Summertime work is available for those interested in assisting Summer camp programs.

Minimum Qualifications: Ability to pass a criminal background check, able to acquire First Aid & CPR certification within 30 days of starting the position, Negative TB screening, experience and interest in working with young children, and excellent communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications: Working toward an education degree associated with childcare or child development. Familiar with procedures and operations required by the VA Department of Social Services.

Drop-In Daycare Staff

The Fairfax County Park Authority (FCPA) provides quality facilities and services which offer resident’s opportunities for recreation to improvement their physical and mental well-being, as well as the enhancement of their quality of life. In order to increase the quality of Oak Marr RECenter and its facilities, Oak Marr RECenter will be opening a drop-in daycare program available to parents/guardians using the building services.

The Drop–in Daycare Staff are the frontline customer service employees for the daycare room. As a Daycare staff member, you are responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

  • Maintain a safe and sanitary environment for children in the daycare room on a daily basis
  • Assist in making sure that the daycare environment is always neat and orderly
  • Assist parents with the signing in/out process upon dropping off/picking up their children  
  • Keep all appropriate records such as attendance, time and illness sheets
  • Meet and follow all daycare room rules and licensing regulations
  • Assist with daycare room activities
  • Maintain daily open communication with parents
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Keep supervisor informed on all relevant matters
  • Attend in-service and staff meetings
  • Attend mandatory Fairfax County trainings
  • Work morning, evening, and weekend hours

Gymnastics Instructor

Spring Hill RECenter is looking for a part-time gymnastics instructor to lead programs for children, ages 3 to 12 years. The ideal candidate will have experience teaching gymnastics and tumbling, are outgoing with a positive teaching style and are very dependable. Creativity is a plus! Class times are flexible for the right instructor but we prefer someone who has weekend, morning, or evening availability.

We are most interested in finding someone who can teach rhythmic gymnastics and tumbling as well as give students an entry-level experience in artistic gymnastics.

Day Care Center Teacher I

Agency: Department of Family Services, Office for Children, School Age Child Care Program

Salary: $17.65/hour, benefits eligible*
Schedule: Works afternoons and evenings, 25 hours per week, Monday thru Friday for 40 weeks, with summer, winter and spring break off.  Occasional flexible work hours and full days required (teacher workdays, snow days, early releases, etc.).

Plans, prepares and carries out activities and projects for groups of elementary school-age children enrolled in an after-school program. Provides leadership and ensures the safety of the children enrolled in the center.

Minimum Qualifications: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to completion of two years of study and training at an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in early childhood or elementary education, nursing, recreation, or a related field plus one year of related work experience.

Special Requirements: The appointee to this position will be required to complete a TB test, a criminal background check and a check of the Child Protective Services Registry to the satisfaction of the employer.

Preferred Qualifications: Major course work in early childhood education. Experience working with groups of children. Bilingual ability in English and another language is desired.

Aquatic Exercise Instructors and Aquatic Learn to Swim Instructors

Aquatic Exercise Instructors
Certified as a water exercise instructor by a nationally recognized organization such as AEA, USWFA, YMCA, AAI, or WaterArt.

Instructor training for both areas is available through the Park Authority for interested candidates.
