| Fairfax County's job announcements
are updated weekly on Saturday. Jobs are usually advertised
for a two-week period; check the job announcement for the closing
date. On-line resume submissions are accepted until midnight
on the advertised closing date.
With very few exceptions, Fairfax County uses
an on-line application process called AIMS.
Resumes are not accepted by mail, e-mail, or FAX
unless the job announcement specifically directs the applicant
to apply by one of these methods. Unless otherwise noted, jobs
advertised are eligible for the county's full benefit
package.
AIMS on-line application process |
With the AIMS (Applicant
Information Management System) on-line process you can:
- Submit a resume on-line.
- Use the "Quick Apply" feature
to apply for jobs with just a couple of mouse clicks.
- Learn the current
status of jobs that you have applied for.
On your first visit to AIMS, you will need to
set up an account. You will be asked to create a User
ID and password, along with a reminder
question to help you if you forget your password. After
creating your account, you can log in and create your resume:
- Use the step-by-step Resume Builder to create
a new resume; or
- If you already have a resume saved to a
disk, you can "copy-and-paste" it in.
Applying for jobs is simple. When you find a
job that you are interested in, click on "Apply For This
Job Now." Then log in to your AIMS account, fill in a couple
of fields, and you're done! Or, you can make a note of the job
number for which you want to apply, log in to your AIMS account,
click “Quick Apply” and enter the job number.
It usually takes a few weeks after a job advertisement
has closed for the initial screening process to be completed.
During that time, you can visit your AIMS account and click
“My Status” to check the status of your application.

will not allow you to change personal information or enter a
resume. To set up an IVR account, log in to your AIMS account
and click on the link to Change
or Create IVR PIN.
Some job announcements indicate
that they are an "Eligible List." Eligible lists are
sometimes used to fill categories of positions that become vacant
frequently, such as Administrative Assistants. The eligible
list allows a department to establish a ready pool of qualified
applicants. Click here to see more information about how
Fairfax County uses eligible lists.
