The Fairfax County Juvenile and
Domestic Relations District Court (JDRDC) has jurisdiction over
juvenile matters, offenses committed by adults against juveniles (youth
under the age of 18), and family matters, except divorce, in Fairfax
County, the City of Fairfax, and the towns of Herndon, Vienna and
Clifton.

Juvenile Detention Center (part-time)
Salary: $18.41/hour (Grade S14)

Substitute Relief Counselor. Responsible for direct care, security and control of residents. Staffs' active supervisory posture (sight and sound) ensures safety and security of youth and facility operations and that residents are treated with dignity and respect. Stimulates resident's interest and supervises their participation in a comprehensive activities program; instructs and participates in various stages of the FJDC program. Assigns and supervises residents and participates in daily light housekeeping tasks. Maintains basic discipline and control of residents; observes residents constantly to detect potentially dangerous or deceptive acts. Utilizes physical crisis intervention as needed to bodily control disruptive or aggressive detainees. Through personal contacts, assists residents with adjustment to the program and to help to relieve residents’ anxieties and tensions by employing counseling procedures. Documents (per prescribed procedure) actions of assigned duty post during assigned shift. Relief staff are schedule on an as needed basis (50% schedule ahead of time; 50% on-call). Day (7 a.m. - 3 p.m.), evening (3 - 11 p.m.), overnight (11 p.m. - 7 a.m.) weekend and holiday hours will be required. Availability is critical.
Minimum Qualifications: Three years of college credit with major in a behavioral science. One year of work experience with children or adolescent group maybe substituted with one year of academic credit.
Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in a behavioral science with one year of experience working with at-risk adolescents.
Special Requirements: Physical examination and criminal background checks are required.

Foundations (part-time)

Location: 12720 Lee Highway
Cares for and supervises girls ages 14 - 17 in a community-based
residential facility. Relief counselors will be responsible for program
implementation and behavioral management of residents on an as-needed
basis. Day, evening, overnight, weekend and holiday hours required.
Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited college or university with courses in the behavioral sciences. Two years of work experience with children or adolescent groups may be substituted for two years of academic credit toward a bachelor's degree. Completion of a two-year certificate or associate's degree program in behavioral sciences from a community college or other college, and one year of full-time work experience with children or adolescent groups, one of which must have been with delinquent youth, preferably in an institutional or group home setting.
