It’s Not Your Grandparents’ Senior Center Anymore
The first wave of baby boomers is hitting retirement age and they’re looking for different kinds of activities and leisure programs than their parents—starting with staying healthy and active.
Fairfax County has rethought the senior center concept and a year and a half ago opened the Kingstowne Center for Active Adults next to the Kingstowne library at 6488 Landsdowne Center. The center is open Monday through Friday from 9 am to 4 pm. Admission is free and the center serves Fairfax County residents ages 55 and older. The center runs health, wellness and fitness programs, financial planning, cooking classes, Tai Chi, yoga, trips, and opportunities to socialize and stay connected to your community.
More convenient to the Route 1 area is the Groveton Senior Center, located in the South County Center at 8350 Richmond Highway, Suite 325. The Groveton center is open from Monday through Friday from 9 am to 4 pm and the phone number is 703-704-6216.
More information about Fairfax County programs for senior adults is available online or at 703-324-5544.
