Update on Implementing a Large Area Community Parking District in Lee
Last January, I held a public meeting about a Fairfax County program to address residential neighborhood parking problems. Making all of Lee District a large area community parking district would limit parking of boats and RVs on residential streets without individual communities having to go through a cumbersome and lengthy petition process. Since that January meeting, I have spoken with many Lee communities and citizens about this proposal and asked about it on my Lee District questionnaire (mailed to Lee residents and available on my Lee District web page earlier this year). Based on what I am hearing, this proposal has widespread support, including from almost three quarters of the questionnaire respondents.
We now have some history on how these large area community parking districts work as they have been successfully implemented in the Mount Vernon District and Reston. Residents have been pleased with the increased traffic safety and improved community appearance.
Now, we are at the next step in the process of considering this type of
parking district in our community. A public hearing before the full Board
of Supervisors for the Lee District Large Area Community Parking District
is scheduled for 4 pm on October 19 at at the Fairfax County Government
Center at 12000 Government Center Parkway. The board will vote on whether
to proceed making Lee District a large area CPD directly after the public
hearing.
