The Centreville community has had a library since
May 4, 1970 when the original library opened in
a lower level storefront at the Newgate shopping
center. Rich in Civil War history and lore, Centreville
for much of this century was famous for its dairy
farms. The library’s present location is on the
grounds of one of the last area dairy farms, the
De Bell farm. The farmhouse was towed from this
site to a new site behind the Centreville Methodist
Church off New Braddock Road where it remains as
a treasured historical landmark.
The new Centreville library is a white stone structure occupying the corner of
Machen Road, St. Germain Drive and Rt. 29. It opened its doors on May 18, 1992.
The 30,000 square foot building houses a collection of about 160,000 items including
collections in Spanish and Korean as well as materials for learning English.
The library is committed to serving the needs of the Centreville community with
a special emphasis on ages preschool through young adult. Visit the Centreville
library and experience the rich history and tremendous growth of this area of
Fairfax County. |
