The Fairfax County Public Library’s eight regional branches
will display artwork over the next eight months created by children
ages 6-12 as part of the Harmony
Project. The collection includes
photographs taken by children, a quilt and other items. More than
20 countries are represented through the art and the children who
created it. The art was created by children in the Department of
Family Services/Office for Children’s School Age Child Care
Program.
The year-long Harmony Project explores Fairfax County’s diversity
through reading, writing, dance, music, storytelling, painting, and
other art forms. These activities emphasize how the arts play an
important role in promoting cultural understanding, fostering pride
and contributing to the education and development of children.
This project is the result of a partnership among Fairfax County
Public Library, the Office
for Children and Harmony: Celebrating
Our Heritage Through the Arts, a project of the Fairfax Symphony
Orchestra in partnership with the Fairfax
County Office of Partnerships,
Fairfax County Community & Recreation Services, GMU Center
for the Arts and the Theater of the First Amendment, Boys and Girls
Clubs and Cox.
