Fairfax County Public Library cards are available at no charge to all individuals who live, work, or attend school in Fairfax County or Fairfax City. The fee to replace a card is $2.00. Individuals not eligible for a free card may apply for an annual fee of $27.00 a year.

Fees help bring materials back for others to use. Fees for material kept past its due date accrue daily. You can receive notification via e-mail that materials you have checked out are approaching their return date.

Overdue notices are mailed for items more than 10 days overdue. Customers who provide their e-mail addresses receive reminder e-mail notices three days in advance of the due date and five and 10 days after the due date. Borrowing privileges are blocked until fines of $25 or more are paid. Items declared lost by the customer or overdue more than 50 days are charged at the full replacement cost plus a $3.00 non-refundable processing fee. The replacement cost is refunded on such items if returned in usable condition within six months; refunds will not be provided for individual media pieces that have been paid for (CDs, Cassettes, etc.), only for the complete set. The library uses a collection agency to assist in recovering books; there’s a $10 charge if the library refers an account to the collection agency. Customers may use Visa or MasterCard credit and debit cards at all library branches to pay for overdue or lost books.
