Your Library Account and the Virginia Freedom of Information Act (VFOIA)
Your library account information, like most records held by Fairfax County agencies, is a public record under the Virginia Freedom of Information Act (VFOIA). The VFOIA requires public bodies, like the library, to make public records available for inspection and copying by citizens of the Commonwealth and representatives of certain news organizations.
You may elect to have your email address withheld in response to a VFOIA request by coming into a library branch or indicating your preference here. It is important to note that VFOIA allows the library to withhold a customer’s borrowing records from VFOIA requests.
