Opened September 29, 2007, the Oakton Library is the first public library in Fairfax County designed and constructed under the Leadership Energy In Environmental Design (LEED) program, sponsored by the U.S. Green Building Council. The branch serves as a community center for Oakton residents who worked long and hard to get their own library, and provides an array of programs for all ages. The 17,304 square-foot facility, which houses approximately 65,000 volumes, gives the reader a pleasant sense of bringing the outdoors in, due to ample natural lighting from seven oversized windows and a raised clerestory.

The Oakton collection includes books, CDs, DVDs, magazines and newspapers, kits for book groups and a Spanish collection for children. The Friends of Oakton Library, established well before the branch opened, assist generously with their time and monetary support. Programs are offered for all ages, including preschool story times to promote early literacy skills, activities to motivate school-aged children and teens to use the library, book discussion groups for adults and kids, and much more. Guest performers are often hosted thanks to the generosity of our Friends group.

Come on in and meet our friendly staff, who are ready to help you find your way around and enjoy all that we have to offer.
