The temporary library is a small but attractive facility with a collection of approximately 5,000 books, magazines, newspapers and media. Although seating is limited, library customers may pick up their holds and inter-library loans as usual, and a generous variety of new material is available for browsing. Seven Internet/MS Office workstations are available to the public as well as one copier-printer, one online catalog station and one self-checkout station. Knowledgeable staff are ready to welcome longtime and new customers and provide answers to research questions.
The permanent Tysons library closed for renovation in January, 2016. The renovation is on schedule for a fall 2017 reopening. The renovated branch will have quiet and group study rooms, a Wi-Fi bar for customers to use with their own devices, more meeting space and a large children’s area, among other infrastructure and facility upgrades. The library is being built following green building standards.
NOTE: While the permanent Tysons-Pimmit Regional Library (7584 Leesburg Pike) undergoes renovation Dolley Madison Library has extended its hours to match the county's regional library branch hours.
In 1974 a modest community library opened in the Peachtree of McLean apartment complex. Local population growth soon made construction of a larger library necessary, and the 25,000 square-foot Tysons-Pimmit Regional Library opened on October 26, 1985, with a collection of 80,000 materials.
Today the branch offers an array of library services for users of all ages from a richly diverse community. These include a collection of more than 100,000 materials, outreach presentations, Internet tutoring, and eBook demonstrations. We also provide a wide variety of year-round free programs. Staff and volunteers are committed to making the library a comfortable and friendly setting to read, reflect and learn.
