FAIRFAX CITY CEMETERY


Main St., 100 Yds E. of Page Ave Connector, Fairfax, Va.


2 1/3 acres of land was purchased Dec. 31, 1866 by the Ladies Memorial Association for the burial of "Confederate States Soldiers, who fell in battle or died of wounds incident to and while they were in the service of he Confederate States, and who are now buried within the limits of the said County, or who were citizens thereof at the time of that death and are buried elsewhere" (Db G4:474). Control of the cemetery was transferred to the Fairfax Cemetery Association in 1875 (Db U4:62). The City of Fairfax gained title in 1962 (Db 2136:377).
