Chestnut Grove Cemetery was founded in 1872 and currently covers 24 acres. A group of cemetery trustees oversaw operations until 1954 when the Chestnut Grove Cemetery Association was formed. On Sept. 1, 1997 ownership and operation of the cemetery were turned over to the Town of Herndon.
