1445 LAYMAN ST., MCLEAN
J. Harry Shannon (a.k.a. The Rambler) writes of a visit
to the cemetery in the Feb. 17, 1914 edition
of the Washington Star. He records "There are
many graves in this little plot marked by rude
stones picked up from the fields, or probably
brought from Big Pimmit Run. There are a few
conventional tombstones." The cemetery lot has
been subject to considerable vandalism and controversy
over the years. The Remaining gravestones have
all been laid down and set flush with the ground
and the area appears to be used as an extension
of the yard for 1443 Layman St. The cemetery
is clean and the grass neatly trimmed. Flower
beds have been installed in the north and east
corners of the lot. NOTE: This cemetery is listed
on the Fairfax County Master Inventory of Historic
Sites.
