6450 LINWAY TERR., MCLEAN
This cemetery lot is a circle 90' in diameter (Db 2708:104/.146
ac.) having at it's center a monument honoring
WILLIAM WATTERS, the first American born Methodist
minister. An 8' x 8' iron fence surrounds the
obelisk. There are no other inscribed markers,
but there is one marble gravestone base, numerous
fieldstones, and many depressions indicating
the presence of 30+ burials. The site was acquired
by the Virginia Conference of the United Methodist
Church in 1965., but received little maintenance.
In 1996 the Church chartered the William Watters
Foundation to oversee the property. The Foundation
has acquired a right-of-way and is embarked
on a project to cleanup and maintain the property.
