OLD COLCHESTER RD. NEAR THE OCCOQUAN RIVER, LORTON
This cemetery was associated with the church in the
Town of Colchester and is one of the oldest
European burial grounds in Fairfax County. The
site contains numerouse depressions (several
marked by fieldstones) and one cut gravemaers.
A W.P.A. Historical Inventory report by Susan
R. Morton dated 4/11/38, recorded a single headstone
which read: "Here lyes the body of Katherine
Popkins, Departed this life, December 1766,
Age 68 years." This stone is currently located
at Pohick Church.The site is wooded.
