METHODIST BURIAL GROUND

Pohick Bay Regional Park, 10301 Gunston Rd., Lorton, Va.

"Lebanon," built c. 1815, was the home of EDWARD BATES. The first Methodist meetings on Mason Neck were held in the barn, and the area behind the barn was used for a burial ground until Lewis Chapel was built in 1857. The exact location of the cemetery and whether any or all of the burials were ever reinterred in the Lewis Chapel cemetery is not known. The house and grounds are now owned by the Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority and is now the Pohick Bay Regional Park. The gold course surrounds the house.
