BROWN/LEWIS/MACHEN FAMILY

When LEWIS MACHEN purchased the 725 acres that included "Walney" in 1844, the deed (Db 13:198) reserved a 1/8 acre "place of interment in which lie buried remains of some of the ancestors of the said Samuel L. Lewis and Mary C.B. Lewis." The cemetery was reportedly located in the woods south of the house and marked by fieldstones. The names of some persons buried there were obtained from documentary sources and are listed below. The area was wooded and neglected. Machen FAIRFAX HERALD (Newspaper) Lewis Machen Obit. & Funeral Sept. 16, 1927 P. 2 & Sept 23, 1927 P. 5 NOTE: JAMES P. MACHEN (1831-1913) and his wife GEORGIE C. MACHEN (1841-1895), are both buried at St. John's Episcopal Church, Centreville, Va.
