CIVIL WAR BURIALS - RTE. 28

5931 Fort Dr., Centreville, Va.

Around 1994 a grave was discovered by relic hunters on land slated for development. On Jan. 30, 1997, a team headed by Fairfax County Archeologist Michael Johnson disinterred the remains of six Civil War soldiers. All six were white males, ages 18-24, dressed in army uniforms. It is unknown whether they were Union or Confederate soldiers, but availible evidence indicate Union. Reinterrment is planned for St. Johns Episcopal Church. A McDonalds Restaurant now occupies the original site.
