Friends of the George Mason Regional Library
For over 40 years the Friends of the George Mason Regional Library have been a fixture in the Annandale community. In May of 2011, Fairfax County honored us with the Community Resource Champion Award. This award was specifically in recognition of our funding an Endowment in the amount of $500,000 for the benefit of Fairfax County Public Libraries. On December 11, 2000, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors honored the George Mason Friends for their support to libraries, notably their support of the Summer Reading Program. The Award of Excellence presented by Friends of Virginia Libraries in 2000 recognized the Friends of George Mason Regional Library for creating a unique lending system to share quality art, a pilot project to get computers available to the public in Fairfax County Public Libraries, and other ongoing and one-time projects supporting FCPL. Plaques commemorating these honors are on display at the George Mason Regional Library.

We do not have a formal membership program with dues. The George Mason Friends actively recruit volunteers to assist with our activities. Volunteers are especially needed to unpack boxes in preparation for the book sale and to staff the semi-annual sales. Community service hours are available for middle school and high school students. Book Sale Donation Process
Donations of saleable materials are always appreciated. Donations may be placed in the donation bin in the front lobby during library hours any day the library is open. You also may leave boxes of books beside the donation bin. Please do not leave donations outside the library when the library is closed. We are sorry that we cannot pick up donations from your home or business, but large donations are welcome. If you expect to donate more than 10 boxes in one trip, please give advance warning by leaving a message at 703-813-6616 or email firstname.lastname@example.org . The George Mason Friends is a 501(c)3 organization so your donation is tax deductible, but we cannot provide a valuation for your donation.
Donations sought include books of all types (chilren’s and adult fiction and nonfiction) as well as music CDs, videos, and recorded books. We welcome recent textbooks. Please do not donate condensed books; vinyl records; encyclopedias more than 10 years old unless they are antique (published before 1945); and National Geographic magazines unless they are either current year or antique (dated before 1945).
Donate your current best seller. The staff at the library gives the Friends lists of books with lots of holds. We look for them among our donations. When we find them, they get added to the copies circulating throughout the library system. We also try to find replacement copies of damaged books.
