Donations of saleable materials are always appreciated. Donations may be made
during library hours any day the library is open. They may be placed in the donation bin in the front lobby. It is a large bin and will accommodate multiple boxes of books. If you need assistance, drive to the loading dock area on the right side of the building and ring the bell by the back door. We are sorry that we cannot pick up donations from your home or business. The George Mason Friends is a 501(c)3 organization so your donation is tax deductible, but we cannot assign a value to it.
Large donations are welcome. If you expect to donate more than 10 boxes in one trip, please give advance warning by leaving a message at 703-256-3800, extension 220.
Donations sought include books of all types as well as music CDs, computer software CDs, videos, and recorded books. Please do not donate condensed books, 33 RPM vinyl records, encyclopedias more than 10 years old unless they are antique, and National Geographic magazines unless they are either current or antique.
Donate your current best seller. The staff at the library gives the Friends lists of books with lots of holds. We look for them among our donations. When we find them, they get added to the copies circulating throughout the library system.
In the second half of 2008, the library budget
was cut, especially the part for acquiring books
and magazines. In 2009, the library budget will be cut even more. The
George Mason Friends and the staff at the George Mason Regional Library
are working together to get even more copies of books in high demand
added to the library's collection. We also try to find replacement copies
of damaged books.
More more information, see the library's general information on donations of books.
