The Friends of the
Lorton Library was formed in 1983. We have been active
in support of the library and the surrounding Lorton
community. We are very active in the support of what
we feel is the best library branch in the county.
The history of the Friends of the
Lorton Library goes back to the time when Lorton had
only a storefront branch in Williamsburg Square. Early
Friends supporters were Harry Lattimore, Joanne Foster
and Nancy Roper. With the opening of the Community Library
in April, 1990, a new Friends organization was formed
and helped sponsor opening day festivities for the new
branch. Since the opening, the Friends have continued
to support branch needs, including a period when several
officers of the Friends were no longer able to offer
their support. In January 1998 the Friends group was
revitalized with new officers under the leadership of
Anne Marsh.
