Concerts at the Alden.Music Friends' Concerts at the Alden

This classical music series, now in its 35th season, began in 1974 when the Music Friends of the Fairfax County Public Library bought a Steinway Concert Grand and began to hold recitals in local library branches. The Music Friends work to serve the Fairfax County Public Library’s mission “to enrich individual and community life” through the enjoyable and educational experience of live music performance.

At first the major participants were local musicians, but as word of the series spread, more and more musicians from outside the metropolitan area were added. In the summer of 2003, the Music Friends’ Board of Directors changed the name of the series from Rising Stars to Concerts at the Alden to reflect the fact that all the performers are accomplished professional musicians including artists from the National Symphony.

The concerts include Young Soloists Recitals which showcase the talents of local school-age artists, and give them experience in auditioning and performing.

The complete schedule of this season’s performances can be found here; for more information about the concert series and Music Friends membership, call 703-324-8344 or TTY 703-324-8365.
