Accomplishments

The Friends raise funds through used book sales, annual dues, special fundraisers, and community donations.

The Friends have helped pay for many library programs and events, including Mystery Night, the Easy Reader Program, puppet shows, story tellers and musical performances. The Friends participated in the Fairfax County “Art in the Pages” project by sponsoring a beautiful sculpture that sums up Oakton’s history in a book and is titled “Oakton Roots”. The sculpture is located outside of the Oakton Library. The Friends also purchased a sturdy rocking chair, tables and sign holders, shelves, decorations, and indoor plants.

Under our Collection Enhancement Program, the Friends have donated $2,500 worth of new books to aid students in their studies. The Friends also have partnered with the library to purchase outdoor seating as part of an initiative to expand the library outdoors.
