Sherwood Regional Library."A great library needs more than books and computers — it needs friends!" This is the motto of the Friends of the Sherwood Regional Library.

The group is active in enhancing library services by supporting library programs, outreach, the volunteer program and the purchase of equipment for the branch.

In addition to activities in the branch, the Friends have partnered with the Reading Is Fundamental program to provide free books to children at the local affordable health center.

Mission Statement
The purpose of the Friends of the Sherwood Regional Library is to bring together individuals and organizations to support all aspects of this library branch with their time and resources; to generate community awareness and/or involvement in the Library; and any other purpose the association may designate from time to time.

Accomplishments

Mindful of their Mission Statement, the Sherwood Friends devote much time and talent to the success of the branch.  A core of volunteers sorts and prices materials for the book sale.  In recent years, with that money, Friends have voted to support magazine subscriptions, library equipment, and children’s programming.  Looking forward, money is being provided for new furniture and materials to prepare for the celebration of Sherwood Regional Library’s 40th anniversary in 2011.  Some of our Friends are also volunteers who serve their neighbors at the check out desk and the booksale areas.

The Friends also support the branch's extensive volunteer program with a spring volunteer appreciation luncheon.

Membership
The one time membership fee is $5.00 for individuals and $10.00 for families. Additional donations are always welcome. Membership envelopes are also available at the Circulation Desk.

Meetings
The Friends Board meets quarterly.  The public is invited to the annual meeting in June.

Book Sales
On the first floor, there is an ongoing book sale available all hours the branch is open.  Additional sale areas are open Wednesday mornings and first Saturdays.
Donation Process
Donations of books and popular magazine titles in good, saleable condition are welcome any hours the library is open. Large donations can be brought to the library delivery door. A receipt is available to all donors.
