Diwali

*

Diwali (Sanskrit for “row of lights”) is a Hindu festival of lights which lasts for five days.   There are regional variations in the celebration of Diwali, but all center on the lighting of candles, electric lights and fireworks.  For Hindus following the Vikram (Hindu lunar calendar), Diwali is also the celebration of the New Year.  The date for Diwali changes every year.  In 2010 it will be celebrated on November 5.
