Wedding bells.

The wedding is a valued tradition worldwide. Weddings are also a 25 billion dollar industry. Over 2.25 million weddings occur in the U.S. each year. Approximately half of those occur in the summer months, May – August. While June has been considered the top choice month, August has been favored in the last decade. Approximately eighty-five percent of weddings are held in a religious venue. The average first time bride in the U.S. is 25 and the average first time groom 26.

Seventy-five percent of first time brides receive a diamond engagement ring. The tradition was popularized by the Venetians during the 15th century. Since diamond was the hardest substance in nature it followed that the marriage would endure forever.

In western culture wedding dresses are usually white. The popularity of this choice can be traced back to Queen Victoria when she married Prince Albert in 1840. Prior to the Victorian era a bride wore any color except black or red. In Eastern cultures the popular color choice is often red.
