The Winter Olympics are world wide competitions in which over 80 countries participate in various winter sports. The Winter Olympics are held every four years. In 2006, 2,600 athletes from 82 National Olympic Committees competed and 84 medals were given over a period of 17 days.
Cities throughout the world compete for the honor of hosting the games and in 2006, the Winter Games were in Turin, Italy from February 10-26th.
