The World Cup Soccer tournament, representing 32 teams from across the world, is held every four years and was last held in June and July, 2006 in Germany. Sponsored by the Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), teams from six continents vie for the World Cup trophy. Games are played at various sites throughout the host country. Two individual awards are also presented: the Golden Ball for the most outstanding player, and the Golden Shoe award for the highest scoring player.
The 2010 World Cup will be held in South Africa.
