Ghana,
is in West Africa and
is bordered by Cote
D'Ivoire, Burkina
Faso, Togo and
the Gulf of Guinea. Named after an ancient African empire,
it gained independence from Great Britain in 1957. Ghana
is about the size of Oregon and the capital and largest
city of Ghana is Accra.
Ghana has a hot, humid climate. Beaches, swamps, tropical forests, and grasslands cover the region.
The government is a constitutional democracy, with the President as the head. Every four years, the President and Vice President are elected by popular vote.
Black Africans make up 98.5 percent of the population. The majority of its people practice Christianity. English is the official language.
The basic unit of currency is the cedi.
