
The Korean Peninsula has been divided into North and South Korea since 1948. South Korea is often referred to as the Republic of Korea. North Korea is to the north.
The population of South Korea as of July, 2006 was 48,846,823. The capital of South Korea is Seoul. A large proportion of the population are Christian but many practice other religions including Buddhism, Confucianism, and several new religions.
The official language of South Korea is Korean and the unit of Korean currency is Won.
