Betty Friedan was one of the pioneers of the feminist movement in the 1960s. After spending years as a full-time homemaker, the college-educated Friedan wrote her first book, The Feminine Mystique, published in 1963. This book is widely held to be one of the catalysts of the second wave feminist movement, examining women’s roles in the home and workplace.
