Born on July 30, 1936 in Lettsworth, Louisiana, George 'Buddy' Guy is an African-American blues musician and business owner hailed as one of the greatest guitar players alive.
Buddy grew up as a sharecropper's son, and left Louisiana for Chicago, in pursuit of his dream to become a musician. He was discovered by his idol, Muddy Waters, and with Muddy's support, quickly became a success. Buddy was known not only for his musical talent, but also for his unique concert performances.
Guy has received numerous awards for his outstanding work as a musician, including a Grammy for Best Blues Album of the Year, a 2003 National Medal of Art Award, and 23 W.C. Handy Awards, which is the most that any one blues artist has received.
Guy continues to tour in the United States and worldwide, and is the owner of Legends, a blues club in Chicago, Illinois.
