Michael Jackson, known as the 'King of Pop,' won 13 Grammy Awards and was named Artist of the Century by the American Music Awards. Born in Gary, Indiana, on August 29, 1958, he began his music career at age of five as the lead singer for the Jackson 5, the musical group of brothers started by their father Joseph Jackson in 1964. In 1968 the Jackson 5 were discovered, signed by Motown Records, and moved to California. The Jackson 5 recorded 14 albums with Motown, and Michael – always the most famous of the group -- recorded four solo albums with the record company.

In 1977 Michael starred in the film version of “The Wiz,” where he met musical director Quincy Jones, who became producer of Michael’s best known albums. Of his nine solo albums, five – Off the Wall, Thriller, Bad, Dangerous and HIStory – remain among the best-sellers of all time. He released 13 number one singles, was inducted twice into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and was recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as “Most Successful Entertainer of All Time”. Guinness also recognized Thriller as the Biggest Selling Album of All Time.

Jackson was married twice: to Lisa Marie Presley from May 1994 – January 1996; and to Deborah Rowe from November 1996 to October 1999. He has three children, two with second wife Rowe: Prince Michael Joseph, Junior (born: February 13, 1997), Paris Michael Katherine (born: April 3. 1998); and one by a surrogate mother -- Prince Michael II (born: 2002).

Michael Jackson died on June 25, 2009.
