Daniel Morgan was commissioned a captain of a Virginia rifle company at the beginning of the Revolutionary War. He spent months as a prisoner in Quebec before being released. He received high praise from General Gates, but became disillusioned with the political intrigue against General Washington. He won many victories for the colonial army. After the war he temporarily retired to his estate "Saratoga" to rebuild his fortune. He served in Congress from 1787-1800.
