Harry F. Byrd Jr.

Harry F. Byrd Jr., born in 1914 and son of U.S. Senator Harry F. Byrd, served as a Virginia Senator from 1948-1965. In 1965 he was appointed a U.S. Senator to fill the vacancy caused by his father's resignation. He served in the U.S. Senate until 1983.
