Henry Clay was a lawyer, U.S. Senator (1806-1807), U.S. Congressman (1810-1811, 1931-1942, 1849-1852), and Secretary of State (1825-1829). His greatest love was "the excitement of debate and parliamentary maneuvers." He declined an appointment to the Supreme Court.
