After being educated in England, Richard Henry Lee returned to Virginia. In 1758 he entered the House of Burgesses. Over the course of his career he became well-respected and influential. He was strongly opposed to England's plan to tax the colonies and raised a strong outcry about the Stamp Act and the Townshend Acts. He was one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence.
