William Henry Fitzhugh Lee joined the army after graduating from Harvard. After two years he resigned his commission to become a farmer. Upon the outbreak of the Civil War he organized a cavalry company and fought in many campaigns. After the Civil War he returned to farming. He served four years in the Virginia Senate and served in Congress from 1887 until his death in 1891.
