Soccer Ball. The game has flourished in diverse forms for over 1,000 years. The earliest form of a game using the feet to control a ball may go back to the 2nd or 3rd century B.C. in China. The more contemporary game dates back to England in 1863 when soccer branched off from the game of rugby and the Football Association was born. Early games had been played by various rules and with balls of various sizes. Representatives of 11 clubs and schools met to set uniform rules. The Annual General Meeting of the International Football Association Board in February 2009 revised the Laws of the Game. The revised Laws became effective on July 1, 2009

FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association) was founded in 1904 with seven member countries. FIFA has grown to over 200 members from around the world today. The first World Cup was held in 1930 in Montevideo, Uruguay. This world championship is held every four years. Soccer is considered the most popular sport in the world.
