    Federal and state tax forms and publications can be printed out on the library's printers at a charge of 15 cents per page, or downloaded onto a flash drive at no charge.

      The IRS TaxFax service is no longer available. The IRS does not offer a "forms by e-mail" service.

    • Federal Forms
      Several of the most commonly needed federal forms and instructions are distributed — subject to availability — at library branches from January through April each year. Each branch also has reproducible copies of federal forms and instructions available throughout the year. You can photocopy these items for 15 cents per page or scan them onto a flash drive free of charge.

      Federal forms distributed at the library include:

      • 1040
      • 1040 A
      • 1040 EZ
      • Schedules A and B
      • Appropriate instructions

      Forms can be made available in alternative formats. Call Access Services at 703-324-8380 or TTY 703-324-8365.

    • Virginia Forms
      The Virginia Department of Taxation does not provide handout copies of Virginia tax forms to libraries. However, each library branch has reproducible copies of Virginia forms and instructions. You can photocopy these items for 15 cents per page or scan them onto a flash drive free of charge.

      Although the IRS has stopped mailing tax packages, many individual tax forms and publications, with limited availability, are still available by US mail. You can use this Web form to request copies, or phone 1-800-829-3676 to have IRS forms and publications mailed to you.

Free Tax Preparation Help


  • AARP Tax-Aide Program
    Free help in preparing and filing state and federal income tax returns is available through the AARP Tax-Aide program. Offered in cooperation with the IRS, the Tax-Aide Program provides free tax assistance services for low- and middle-income taxpayers, with special attention given to those 60 and over.

    NOTE: AARP Tax-Aide Program services are generally available from late January/early February through April 15 of each year. Check back in early 2015 for local-area program locations, dates and times.

  • Northern Virginia CASH Campaign
    The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program, known in Northern Virginia as the Creating Assets, Savings and Hope (CASH) Campaign, offers free income tax preparation services to families and individuals who earn $52,000 or less in 2014. IRS certified volunteers will ensure you receive the maximum tax refund and help determine if you are eligible for the earned income tax credit. Organized by Fairfax County Department of Family Services

    NOTE: CASH/VITA tax preparation services are generally available from late January through April 15 of each year. Check back in early 2015 for local-area locations and schedules.
