Library Board of Trustees Honors Volunteers

Joy Whittington. The Fairfax County Public Library Board of Trustees honored 32 volunteers at a special awards ceremony April 9, at George Mason Regional Library. Volunteer categories earning special recognition include volunteers who have reached service milestones and volunteers who have provided exceptional service. Delegate Mark Sickles served as the evening’s Master of Ceremonies.

Volunteers donated more than 139,000 hours of work for the library in fiscal year 2013 and made a significant impact in the ability of the library to serve the community.

“Each year we honor volunteers who perform many of the behind-the scene tasks that keep libraries running smoothly,” said Willard Jasper, chairman of the Fairfax County Public Library Board of Trustees. “They pull books for the holds list; keep shelves in order; teach computer skills; lead English language learning groups; moderate book groups, garden and so much more.”
