The Burke Centre Library will celebrate its fifth anniversary from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Saturday, June 22 with special Birthday Bash festivities that include a scavenger hunt, balloon art, face painting, a display of LEGO® contest entries, refreshments and more.
The day’s complete schedule includes the balloon art at 10 a.m.; Safari Bingo’s Animals at 11 a.m.; face painting and a performance by the Korean Autoharp Club at noon; a special Birthday Bash party at 1 p.m. and the announcement of the LEGO® creation winners at 3 p.m. Sign up online or call 703-249-1520 to attend the Safari Bingo’s Animals event. The festivities are cosponsored by the Friends of the Burke Centre Library.
“Five years have passed in the blink of an eye. Burke Centre staff invites you to our Birthday Bash to enjoy all the branch has to offer today and in the years to come,” says Branch Manager Linda Schlekau.
“With the help of our Friends, scouts and volunteers, Burke Centre Library has weathered many changes, but the one thing that has never changed is the staff dedication to serving our community,” she adds. “Whether inside the building or at our drive-up window, we are always here to fill your needs.”
The 16,720-square foot building opened with a 75,000-item collection on June 28, 2008. It was the second library branch designed using the Leadership in Energy and Environment (LEED) principals developed by the U.S. Green Building Council and received the organization’s gold certification.
The library branch is a popular destination in its Burke Centre neighborhood. In just the month of April, more than 13,000 people visited the branch and checked out close to 24,000 items.
