Proctoring service for exams is available for
individual students at all library
branches, except Martha Washington, Richard
Byrd and Thomas Jefferson while those
branches are in temporary facilities. Advance
arrangements are required. Starting September
1, 2009 the fee is $20.00 per test and can be
paid by cash, check made to the Fairfax County
Public Library, or credit cards (Visa or MasterCard)
by the student when the test is administered.
Instructions for students:
- The library branch you select to proctor your exam will communicate with you via e-mail. If you do not have an e-mail account, please create a free one using Gmail (Google Mail), Hotmail, Yahoo Mail or any other service.
- You must complete the online Proctoring Request form below.
- The library branch will contact your learning institution to ensure our service meets their requirements. Obtain the name of the contact person at your learning institution and their correct e-mail address so you can complete the form.
- The submitted form will go to the library branch you've selected.
A copy will be sent to the e-mail address
you provided as your own.
- The library branch you selected will forward a letter to your learning institution's contact using the e-mail address you supplied in your request form. A copy of that letter will be sent to your e-mail address as well.
- Your learning institution must reply to the library branch either accepting or declining the terms of the library's proctoring service before your exam will be scheduled.
- If your learning institution accepts the library's service, the library branch will contact you by e-mail to schedule the date and time for the test to be taken.
Proctoring
rules
*Note you must agree to the rules before requesting
proctoring service.
The library will:
- Provide a contact person (the proctor) for the student and their institution.
- Receive test materials from the institution.
- Hold test materials received for a student for 60 days or until the test's stated deadline.
- Verify the student’s photo ID at the exam.
- Certify that the student has taken the exam within the specified time.
- Return the completed exam to the institution via any prepaid method of postage.
The library cannot:
- Provide staff to monitor the student continuously during the test.
- Verify that the student had no access to other materials or assistance.
- Provide a private place for exams.
- Accommodate requests for walk-in proctoring.
- Contact the institution to clarify procedural questions.
- Grade exams.
- Guarantee that the correct material has been received by the library branch.
- Guarantee that completed exams will be received by the institution by a specific date.
- Provide postage or supplies for returning exams to the institution.
- Return uncompleted exams, unless envelope and postage are provided
by the institution.
- Provide proctoring on Sundays.
- Provide technical support for online tests.
The student will:
- Verify that their institution accepts all library proctoring procedures.
- Verify that the library branch has received the exam.
- Allow sufficient time to take the exam before the deadline established by their institution.
- Bring their photo ID to the exam.
- Pay the $20.00 fee by either cash, check made to the Fairfax County Public Library, or credit card (Visa/MasterCard only).
- Come prepared with all supplies needed to take the exam.
- Provide postage and supplies for returning the exam to their institution
in case the institution has not done so.
- Allow 7-10 days for normal U.S. Postal Service delivery or make other prepaid delivery arrangements to return the completed exam to their institution.
- In the event of inclement weather, call the library branch to determine whether or not it is open.
Failure to comply with these rules
may result in refusal of your proctoring request
at the Fairfax County Public Library.
