Position Title: Information Desk Volunteer (Public Service)
Branch: Available at most branches
Department: Information
Supervisor:Information Services Manager
Length of Commitment: 6 months (minimum)
Time Involvement: 4 hours per week
Position Summary:
Provides reference assistance at the Information Desk.
Major Responsibilities:
Receives training from Information Services Manager and other
Information staff. Works to complete Information Services Training
Checklist. Provides reference service at Information Desk, working with
at least one staff librarian.
Qualifications:
Either have an MLS degree or 6 months experience working at a public
library information desk. Previous library experience desirable. Public
service attitude/respect for public, tactful, courteous. Regard for
privacy. Reliability. Commitment to scheduled time. Promptness.
Preferably able to attend Information Services series (centralized
training modules in various Fairfax County branches).
